Concordia University Chicago (CUC) invites applications for the full-time, exempt position of Resident Director/Coordinator of Student Leadership. The Resident Director provides holistic, educational leadership while administering a comprehensive living-learning environment for communities housing 150-200 students. This position reports to the Director of Residence Life and is located in River Forest, IL.

Responsibilities/Duties: 

Resident Directors serve as the primary professional staff available in the residence halls for student support.  Resident Directors are responsible for facilitating community development enriched in the institution's values which enhances academic success and personal growth.  In line with the mission of our university, Resident Directors champion for the spiritual development of our students and demonstrate a commitment to the conservative Lutheran-LCMS tradition.  The Resident Director also assists in providing leadership in a collateral assignment focused on coordinating student activities and intermurals an average of 10 hours per week.  Living on campus is required.  An example of duties include:

  • Responsibility for the supervision, leadership, and development of a comprehensive living-learning environment housing 150-200 students
  • Supervises, trains, evaluates and provides leadership to a Resident Assistant staff of 6-10 RA's, 1-2 SCC's
  • Develops intentional assessment practices to address the needs of each community and create action steps to meet those intended outcomes
  • Creates a community development plan for the residential area focused on the learning, growth, and development of students
  • Serves as a University judicial officer and provide educational guidance in enforcing the CUC Code of Conduct
  • Coordinates day-to-day operations of the residential area and department such as occupancy, facilities management, hall opening and closing, room selection, and the reassignment process
  • Participates in an on-call emergency duty rotation throughout the year (evenings and weekends), including academic breaks providing crisis support and response to students
  • Coordinates and executes large-scale University "traditional events" such as Homecoming, Weeks of Welcome, etc. and assists with New Student Orientation (Jump Start)
  • Enhances the leadership and professional skills of Student Leaders
  • Other duties as assigned relevant to the mission and values of the department and University

Required:

  • Ability to approach the position as an educator and invest in creating holistic experiences for students
  • Committed to personal growth, embracing Lutheran-LCMS values in a collegiate setting, possessing mature judgment, and being a skilled student development educator
  • Strong interpersonal and conflict management skills
  • Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to diverse student populations

Preferred:

  • Experience working within a Liberal Arts institutional environment
  • Experience working with StarRez management software and Maxient conduct software

Minimum Experience Required:

1-2 years of undergraduate Residence Life experience or more at the professional level required; 1-2 years of full-time Residence Life experience preferred (includes graduate level hall director experience)

Education Requirements:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited College/University required; Master's degree from an accredited College/University preferred

Compensation and Benefits:

Starting range is dependent upon individual qualifications and experience. Concordia health, disability and retirement plan enrollment is available to full-time employees and their eligible dependents. Tuition benefits may also be available for employees and their qualified dependents.
