Responsibilities/Duties:  The Art Department seeks applicants for a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor of Graphic Arts, beginning August 1, 2018.   Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses in the areas of graphic design, desktop publishing, typography, web design and internship supervision.  Additional teaching duties may consist of humanities, art history and studio art courses. 

As supervisor of the Graphic Arts program, curriculum development for new and existing courses within the major and across other disciplines is encouraged.   Applicants should be well versed in traditional design yet expand the realm of digital interactive tools and emerging media into the curriculum.  Future potential to extend the program to include an additional major in Visual Communication.   Service commitments include monitoring related equipment, updating Art Department web profiles, promotional materials and social media in addition to committee duties within the department, college, university, and community.

Skill Sets: 

  • Proficient in both Macintosh and PC platforms.
  • Knowledge base of both print publications and web design.
  • Thorough understanding of latest industry standard software applications including but not limited to the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Additional expertise in other areas of emerging digital media such as motion graphics and 3-D sculpting is a plus.
  • Implementation of industry expectations and current digital trends.
  • Substantial portfolio of successful client-based, competitive projects.
  • Evidence of teaching at the university or college level.
  • Effective writing, communication and organizational abilities.

Education Requirements: M.F.A., terminal degree in graphic design, or a closely related field, from an accredited institution by August 1, 2018

  • Five years of full-time graphic design employment or the equivalent combination of part-time and full time employment in graphic design.
  • Minimum of one year of teaching experience in graphic design at the university level, beyond graduate school.
