The Division of Human Services-Gerontology and the Center for Gerontology at Concordia University Chicago (CUC) is seeking PhD applicants to fill one opening in the Gerontology program starting in the summer semester 2018. The position will serve a strategic role in advancing research in applied aging research conducted at the Center for Gerontology. This position is aligned with CUC's Gerontology Initiative and will facilitate research in aging-related issues of local, regional, and global relevance. The faculty in the Gerontology program and center play a key role in advancing research to address such issues related to aging and improving the lives of older adults.

At minimum, the applicant must have completed a master's degree in gerontology or a related field. Moreover, an ideal candidate would have a strong interest in aging and gerontology that can be demonstrated through academic records, professional experience, and statement of purpose. Preference will be given to applicants with good written and oral communication skills demonstrated through publications and presentations.

Position Responsibilities

  • Write and create surveys and data collection tools utilizing standard research protocol.
  • Assist in grant proposal writing.
  • Identify community partners in the Chicagoland area.
  • Recruit and schedule elders for participation in research studies, including explaining the goals of the study, obtaining informed consent, and arranging for the evaluation of study participants.
  • Conduct focus group with older adults.
  • Conducts and collects data via interviews with participants in individuals and group settings.
  • Follow-up by phone, email, and mail with study participants.
  • Participate in the preparation and delivery of presentations to target audiences and to disseminate study findings.
  • Analyze data and drafts data reports, manuscripts and presentations.
  • Conduct literary searches.
  • Assist in communications with researchers and members of the research teams.
  • Work with data in Dedoose (mixed/qualitative data software) and Microsoft Office, including spreadsheets and databases.
  • Work effectively on a multidisciplinary team.
