  • As administrative officer of the College of Education (COE), provide vision and innovation in all initial licensure teacher preparation programs, promote its programs both internal and external stakeholders and collaborate with the deans of the College of Arts and Sciences and College of Graduate Studies regarding cross-college licensure program concerns, staffing of content area courses and shared research and assessment processes.
  • Project faculty, support staff and instructional technology needs in collaboration with the chairs and program coordinators within the COE; work with the appropriate search committee and department chair/program coordinators to conduct interviews of candidates for recommendation to Senior Vice President for Academics.
  • Convene the Peer Review process to review and assess the performance of COE faculty members leading to recommendation to the Sr. Vice President for Academics for their contract renewal, promotion, tenure, and sabbatical/study leaves.
  • In collaboration with the Registrar provide for and support the University Licensure Officer relative to the regulations of the Illinois State Board of Education, the State Educator Preparation and Licensing Board and its subcommittees.
  • Maintain appropriate records of all meetings of the Education Policies Committee, Teacher Education Review Committee, correspondence with State of Illinois Boards, Teacher Candidate test scores, produce and maintain records of various state/federal and accreditation compliance reports, and Title II reports.
  • Monitor marketplace/workforce needs and seek opportunities to provide consultative programs for schools of the Church and in the community; continuously monitor local, state and national trends in teacher preparation and licensure with possible impact on CUC programs.
  • Collaborate with and support the Office of Synodical Placement (LCMS) and CUC's Career Services Office for supporting Lutheran teachers, Directors of Christian Education and public teacher candidates in their initial placement or employment.
  • Serve as a member of the Academic Cabinet of the Senior Vice President for Academics.

Skill Sets: 

  • Expertise in data analysis related to assessment of programs of the COE for external compliance and continuous program improvement.
  • The ability to challenge, motivate and manage faculty and professional staff to high levels of performance and collaboration in the delivery of a complex project over a period of up to 3 years.
  • Working familiarity with the structure of private, faith-based higher education in general, the educational institutions and doctrinal positions of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS) in particular. Current/active listing on one of the educational ministry rosters of the LCMS is a desirable qualification as is an active membership in an LCMS congregation.

Minimum Experience Required:

  • A record of successful organization and execution of (minimally) a program-level or (optimally) college-level accreditation assessment and review process, e.g., NCATE or CAEP, and experience with teacher candidate licensure standards at the state level.
  • Minimally, three to five years' experience in higher education leadership in a position of Chair of a mid-size to large Department, Associate Dean or Dean.
  • Successful classroom teaching and/or district-level K-12 leadership experience in public and/or parochial/private schools. State licensure in a specific K-12 teaching field or specialty preferred.

Education Requirements:

An earned doctorate from a regionally accredited institution in a discrete academic discipline, in  Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Leadership or other field directly related to the preparation of Teacher Education candidates; a successful and innovative record of teaching and scholarship which meets the qualification for a tenure track faculty appointment commensurate with present rank and experience. Current faculty rank at Associate Professor or above is required; tenure status preferred.
