The Department of Teaching, Learning, and Diversity, within the College of Graduate Studies at Concordia University Chicago, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate in Curriculum and Instruction. The appointment will begin on July 1, 2018, or later. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

Responsibilities/Duties: Duties include teaching graduate-level Curriculum and Instruction courses, participating in scholarly work, interfacing with local, state, and national organizations, and active service to the university and the field of education.

Key Job Elements:

  • Develop and teach graduate courses in Curriculum and Instruction (C & I) (face-to-face, hybrid, and online).
  • Engage students in high impact learning practices through learner-centered instructional delivery.
  • Develop a sustainable research agenda including seeking external funds to support the program.
  • Provide effective departmental, college, university, and professional service relevant to the university, community, and state.
  • Collaborate with faculty and relevant partners in the development, review, assessment, and maintenance of Curriculum and Instruction programs.
  • Assist in promoting C & I programs and recruiting students.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Department Chair and Program Leader.
  • Consider the general and special needs of graduate students and assist them in meeting those needs; when necessary, seeks additional help from other college services.
  • Consult with Program Leaders and/or Department Chairperson on matters pertaining to departmental issues or concerns; observe proper channels of communications.
  • Work to continuously improve the curriculum, instructional delivery, and assessment of all program requirements in accordance with CAEP, ISBE, IBHE, and HLC requirements.
  • Participate in faculty and professional organizations and make regular contributions to the scholarly conversation on curriculum and instruction.
  • Relate professional/life experience to learning by the introduction of real-world perspectives into courses, and the active awareness of professional trends, research, and opportunities.

Skill Sets:          

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capable of building and maintaining successful relationships with diverse student populations.
  • Familiarity with online teaching in fully online or hybrid/blended formats.
  • Ability to meet frequently occurring deadlines.
  • Ability to develop a professional rapport with diverse student, peer, and school-site populations.
  • Ability to reflect and learn from students' participation, demonstrating compassionate and consistent behavior in all educational matters, while maintaining high standards.

Minimum Experience Required:

  • Preferably a minimum of 3 years teaching experience in PK-12 education settings.
  • Preferably a minimum of 3 years teaching experience in higher education in a graduate environment in the classroom and online.

Education Requirements:           

  • Ph.D., Curriculum and Instruction or related field.
