Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Responsibilities of this position include: design and implementation of in-season and out-of-season strength and conditioning program for 17 NCAA Division III Athletics Programs.
  • Work directly with head coaches to ensure that the specific strength and conditioning needs of each team are met and assist athletic trainers to design and implement injury prevention and rehabilitation programs. 
  • Teach proper technique in various sport specific speed, strength, agility and explosive movements, as well as testing and evaluating the student-athlete's performance. 
  • Commitment to upholding the academic and athletic integrity of the University and remain compliant with NCAA and University regulations. 
  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, evaluate and manage payroll for fitness center student staff
  • Develop, update, and maintain staff training materials and operating manuals
  • Develop and enforcing policies and procedures relevant to the management of the fitness center
  • Oversee fitness center budget; equipment inventory and maintenance of equipment
  • Recommend purchases of equipment and supplies, and a long-term equipment replacement plan
  • Interface professionally and positively with vendors regarding equipment purchases, delivery, scheduled preventative maintenance, needed repairs and billing
  • Maintain accurate purchase and service records
  • Provide an effective safety/risk management program and procedures for emergency care of participants; schedule training/certification classes in CPR/First Aid for employees; and conduct safety inspections of facilities and activities
  • Coordinate usage of the facility with Faculty for academic purposes
  • Half time credit load. Coursework may include: Health Minor Courses, Senior Fitness Theories and Methods, Activity Courses, Group Fitness Theories and Methods, Weight Training, Fitness and Wellness, with additional courses
  • Supervision of practicum students assigned as the candidate's background allows.

  • Ability to:

    • work effectively with individuals from diverse ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and project a professional attitude
    • Act as a competent mentor for yearly interns and graduate assistants
      Minimum Experience Required:
  • Master's degree in an appropriate area within or related to Exercise Science
  • Experience and demonstrated ability in the design and implementation of safe and effective strength programs for a variety of sports
  • Holds current Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA)
  • Holds group fitness instructor certification
  • Certified in CPR /AED and First Aid.
  • History of proven success in strength and conditioning coaching to include strength training, Olympic lifts, plyometrics, speed development, conditioning, flexibility and nutrition.
