The Supervisor is expected to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with the University, and the school partners served by the principal internship program in the state of Illinois. Professional and personal traits expected of the Supervisor include integrity, competence, creativity, and compassion with a willingness to assist as needed in all college and department endeavors. This position includes the direct supervision of interns assigned to an internship cohort.


  • Understand and utilize, course syllabi, program documents, and guidelines related to the role of the intern supervisor in the Principal Preparation Program.
  • Supervise and provide instruction for 8-10 principal interns assigned to a cohort during the year-long internship.
  • Provide timely formative and summative feedback to interns.
  • Utilize and model the use of technologies throughout the internship.
  • Participate in professional development related to the roles and responsibilities of the intern supervisor.
  • Provide training to on-site principal internship mentors.
  • Complete and submit all required grading and assessment documents in a timely manner.
  • Work with the Internship Director and Ambassadors in the timely management and documentation of internship experiences and intern performance.
  • Effectively communicate rules, policies, and procedures for the principal internship program.
  • Participate in an annual program evaluation for the purpose of improving the internship.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


  • Demonstrate at least two years of student academic growth
  • Knowledge and experience with the process of school improvement
  • Excellent problem solving and collaboration skills,
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient level of technology skills aligned with job responsibilities.

Minimum Experience Required:

  • At least two years of successful experience as a principal in a public or non-public PK-12 school setting

Education Requirements:

  • Master's or Doctoral degree in leadership, administration or related educational field,
  • A valid Illinois general administrative or principal endorsement on their Professional Educator License (PEL), Illinois Teacher Evaluator Training-Growth (Modules 1-5),
