The Department of Sociology at Concordia University Chicago seeks to fill a tenure-track position in the Criminal Justice Program at the level of Assistant Professor starting in Fall 2019. This position requires academic background in sociology and research experience in the area of criminology, sociology of law, and/or criminal legal systems. Teaching load includes, but is not limited to, Introduction to Sociology, Law & Society, Juvenile Delinquency, Policing, Gangs, and Social Deviance. The successful candidate must show a commitment to undergraduate student success, effective classroom teaching, support and growth of the Criminal Justice Program, and continued research in the field. The ideal candidate would have a PhD in Sociology with a focus in criminology or criminal justice. Those nearing terminal degree by start date will be considered. Review of applications will begin on October 15th and will continue until the position is filled.

Responsibilities/Duties: 

As a full-time member of the faculty, the candidate must be willing to engage in all aspects of university life, including teaching, service, and scholarship. The candidate must be willing to teach a variety of courses, including introductory freshman courses and law & society. Teaching load may include some evening, online, or summer courses.

Skill Sets: 

Research related to the sociological understanding of criminal justice, law, or criminology will be considered. However the chosen candidate must have skills to teach a wide variety of courses in both sociology and criminal justice. The candidate must demonstrate a commitment to and capacity for excellent undergraduate teaching and creating connections with the community.

Minimum Experience Required:

Previous teaching at the undergraduate level and employment and/or experience in the field of criminal justice are greatly desired.

Education Requirements:

The ideal candidate would have a PhD in Sociology with a focus in criminology or criminal justice. Those nearing terminal degree by start date will be considered.
