This position is externally funded and subject to annual renewal. The Instructional Coach will assist school(s) in implementing, facilitating and monitoring the project framework, as defined and developed by the Principal Investigators and partners. The project is the result of a partnership between the Chicagoland Lutheran Educational Foundation (CLEF) and the Center for Literacy and designed to support academic excellence in a network of schools. The Instructional Coach will coordinate with the vested stakeholders and other leadership regarding the weekly management of school-based program initiatives and other related duties as assigned. Professional and personal traits expected of the Instructional Coach include integrity, competence, creativity, and compassion.



Instructional Coaches will:

  • maintain a weekly presence in and become an integral part of the assigned partner school(s);
  • attend two monthly (Wednesdays 10 AM - noon, unless otherwise indicated) Project Team meetings on CUC campus;
  • provide six hours of flexible specialty-specific coaching in other schools or engage in other coaching or curricular options each month;
  • Engage in the classroom demonstrating, observing and coaching all teachers in the assigned school(s);
  • Support teachers and teacher leaders in all assigned school(s) and build capacity for school-based leadership;
  • Attend and support all professional development sessions as indicated;
  • Familiarize principals with concepts, pedagogical practices and the project objectives;
  • Consult with school principals and teachers regarding keeping the project organic and responsive;
  • Facilitate whole group sessions, grade-level band meetings and concept-specific breakout sessions for each school and at professional development meetings, as needed;
  • Participate in vertical teaming clusters from PK-8 from partner schools;
  • Collaborate with other coaches, partners and Principal Investigators;
  • Fulfill all hourly in-school and on-campus commitments weekly;
  • Maintain consistent communication with Principal Investigators and all vested stakeholders; and
  • Complete all paperwork, logs and reports (anecdotal notes daily, and others built into Wednesday meeting times).


This position is externally funded and subject to annual renewal. It spans the 32 weeks of CUC semesters and two weeks before the start of school year for 34 total weeks averaging 19 hours a week (generally mid-August through early May, deferring to both partner school and CUC days of non-attendance).

Skill Sets:

  • Advanced study in a related educational field, literacy coaching preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient level of technology skills aligned with job responsibilities.


Minimum Experience Required:

  • Excellent relationship-building, problem solving and collaboration skills.
  • A proven record of supporting academic excellence.


Education Requirements:

  • Some advanced degree work in a related educational field, literacy coaching preferred
