The Admission Counselor/Assistant Director of Admission assists prospective high school students in navigating the college selection process with a goal of attracting, recruiting, admitting, and enrolling a competitive entering class of traditional undergraduate students.  Preference is given to candidates with a LCMS background. In addition to general admission duties, the counselor will be assigned to work on one or more targeted areas (examples include student calling team, campus tour guide coordination, social media coordination, faculty outreach, alumni liaison recruitment).  The admission counselor must be skilled in working with a wide range of constituents in an increasingly diverse student environment.  The counselor will be expected to manage an assigned territory and travel in and out-of-state within that territory as necessary, to achieve goals.  The position involves significant overnight travel and attendance at high school visits, college fair programs, and numerous other events throughout the year.  In addition to individual school visits and student appointments, the counselor is expected to provide small and large group presentations and engage in use of social media to enhance communication with students.  This position will include oversight of special programs and participation in various LCMS events and programs.  Evening and weekend work is frequently required during significant parts of the recruitment cycle.    The counselor will also assist and support high yield events directly related to key interest groups such as church work and music students.  The individual in this position is expected to support the mission of the university and the goals of the undergraduate admission office while maintaining regular contact at consistent intervals with all CUC applicants within the assigned territory. 


Required Skills

  • Prior admission experience strongly desired.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication proficiency and strong collaboration skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must maintain a high level of enthusiasm and energy when working with prospective students.
  • Strong commitment to a work environment that supports a team concept to attain departmental and institutional goals.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in all Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision. 
  • Demonstrated technical skills and ability to review and interpret reports to prioritize work and maximize effectiveness.
  • Flexibility to work evening and weekend hours as necessary.
  • Proven commitment to outstanding quality service to all constituents.
  • Must possess valid driver's license and regular access to reliable transportation.
  • Appreciation of higher education values within the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.

Minimum Experience Required:

Previous experience in private higher education undergraduate admission preferred; title commensurate with experience.

Education Requirements

Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Communications, Sociology, Psychology, or related field.
